Tunnelling projects make a major part of the expenditure of the Road and Highways Ministry with projects worth Rs 2 lakh crore currently underway (The Hindu, 2023). Tunnelling in India requires innovation to tackle geological challenges in regions such as the Himalayas, Western Ghats and the Northeastern reaches of the country. The lack of indigenous solutions is driving up project costs. This is where Perfect Metal Engineering Pvt Ltd (PMEPL) steps in. With application of clever engineering techniques and state-of-the-art manufacturing, we provide robust, low cost tunnelling solutions. Our excellence in innovation extends beyond a single product line. Be it the superior BLDC motor which offers more efficiency and less maintenance than a standard Brushed motor or our industrial HVAC motors, our team delivers can deliver quality motors to exact customer specifications due to our in house development and tool room facilities.
Modular Structure: As the structure is modular, components can be recycled for another project saving costs. Around 60 % of components are recyclable after fitness assessment. The modular structure also leads to ease of transport. Recyclable Components: Given that the requirements and dimensions may be different for a new project, our engineers can redesign recyclable members saving up to 50% in costs. TECHNOLOGICAL INNOVATION IN TUNNELING

Steel Structures:
Welding done by sub-merged arc welding & flux core arc welding method. This minimised the defect in welding as well as higher strength in welding joints. Steel used in view of maximum use in compressive force direction in place of tensile force direction.
Maximum use of rolled section to avoid breakage of grain flow so optimum strength of steel section can be used.
Fasteners & machined parts:
Custom built fasteners / machined components used for quicker assembly & easy for maintenance. Square thread used in load carrying jack for better safety & operational efficiency.
High carbon steel locking pin used to avoid were tear during operation as well as for better strength.

Hydraulics & Electrical system:
Alignment done within 30 minutes with a positional accuracy of 2 mm which is better than the requirement & saving in terms of manhour & concrete. Maintenance free hydraulic cylinders are designed & installed with PTFC sealing technology to avoid deformation & were & tear of hydraulic seal. ·Additional safety valve in 2 layer protection used in inlet outlet valve of cylinder as well as main valve in powerpack to avoid any cylinder movement in case of failure in cylinder during operation.
·Mechanical safety locking system adopted as a secondary safety protection in case of complete failure in hydraulic system. ·3-stage electrical control system used as mentioned bellow. Main electrical control system for entire tunnel lining gantry. Separate control system for hydraulics. Separate control system with remote trigger for gantry wheel system. MCB, VFD & PLC used with pre-programmed as well user editable system.
Wheel & travel mechanism:
Planetary gear box with output torque of 24000 NM used which is 1.5 times the requirement considering transmission losses which can happen in adverse site conditions.
INNOVATION IN MOTOR MANUFACTURING

LOW COST, SUPERIOR QUALITY
Via multiple incremental innovative changes, we have managed to provide superior quality motors at low cost for wide range of applications. A few examples of these changes: Chemical Varnish in Copeland CR single phase motors was replaced with water-based varnish to reduce pollution. To reduce cost, 50% of the motor parts were converted to Aluminum. Previously Corrugated material was used for packaging, which was disposed after single use. Plastic material is now used, which is recycled.

MOTORS FOR WIDE ARRAY OF APPLICATIONS:
•Hermetic Compressor Motors: Hermetic compressors are ideal for domestic and commercial refrigeration systems, where continuous maintenance cannot usually be ensured. Hermetic compressor motors are the most common motors found in air conditioning commercial units. •Single Phase Induction Motors (FHP Motors) From 0.09 kW to 2.25 kW (1/8 HP to 3 HP) in single phase, Various mountings to meet specific requirements, low vibration and low noise, Special shaft, special voltage/frequency motors also available, thermally protected (optional) •Three Phase Induction Motors (LT Motors) Recently, we have successfully developed a range of 3 phase motors in IEC frames 63 to 200. This range of premium efficiency IE3 motors is as per IEC60034-30:2008 / IS12615:2011 and is suitable for a wide range of applications. •HVAC Motors HVAC motors are an integral part of packaged air- conditioning units of all leading MNCs. We work with them right from the design stage to develop a suitable type of motor for their requirement.
